Performance, autonomy of the HP Omen 17-ck1000nf

The HP Omen 17-ck1000nf is a versatile laptop with a large footprint that is powerful, especially in gaming and creation.

It benefits from a large amount of RAM of 32 GB which allows to see well ahead at this level. And to accompany the Intel Core i7-12700H Alder Lake-H hybrid processor very well.

This core delivers an overall power that will satisfy demanding users. Designers will be particularly pleased, as this core provides much faster processing than 8/16 GB DDR4 and a Quad/Hexa/Octo Core. The difference can be strongly felt in CPU and RAM-intensive tasks that use the multi-core – and therefore 14-core – Alder Lake-H, such as video editing, 3D rendering or photo editing.

In addition, multimedia processing is accelerated in software that uses GPU computing power (e.g. Adobe Premiere/Photoshop or Sony Vegas). And this is thanks to the dedicated GeForce RTX 3070 Ti graphics card.

The GeForce RTX 3070 Ti ray tracing is a dedicated NVIDIA Ampere graphics card that allows you to play the latest 3D-intensive games. Even though the 2.5K definition of the panel requires more GPU computations than Full HD, which leads to lower fps.

Gamers are in fact the main target of the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti ray tracing, which is activated/deactivated automatically and in real time by NVIDIA Optimus technology, depending on the tasks performed.

This is because Optimus favors the Intel Iris Xe solution integrated in the Core i7 Alder Lake-H as much as possible, even though its performance is very modest in comparison because it consumes little energy, which favors autonomy.
The GeForce RTX 3070 Ti is therefore activated by Optimus to perform graphics processing that is too heavy for the Iris Xe. With one or the other, we can obviously watch photos and videos.

The storage is of course entrusted to a silent SSD while being more energy efficient than a hard disk, more resistant to shocks and much faster.
The SSD allows you to get to online game maps faster, for example, and to launch games/software, process and start/stop them much faster.

In general, the SSD guarantees a clearly increased fluidity and reactivity compared to a hard disk.
The capacity of the SSD is 1TB, which is very comfortable for multiple games, software and files including personal creations.

Lastly, expect about 5 hours of battery life in light use for a versatile multimedia-creating gamer laptop that is noisy and heats up when heavily used (e.g. games, processing).
Not the most nomadic of laptops due to its weight and large size, this 17″ is nevertheless comfortable for mainly sedentary use (e.g. at home).

A ventilated stand can be used as a complement to limit temperatures (remember to check the dimensions!).

HP Omen 17-ck1000nf chassis, connectors, screen

This versatile multimedia laptop oriented towards gaming and creation that can be recharged to 50% in 45 minutes sports a rather sober and elegant gamer look with its dark design with angular lines.

This creative gamer laptop is equipped with good connectivity including 1 USB-C Thunderbolt 4, HDMI and mini-DisplayPort video outputs useful to easily connect it to a TV or a monitor for example, Bluetooth 5. 2 and Wi-Fi ax (more recent and efficient than Wi-Fi ac) to communicate and connect remotely, Ethernet and audio ports but also 3 USB 3.0 (USB 2.0 compatible) guaranteeing transfers up to 10 times faster than USB 2.0 if you connect USB 3.0s peripherals.

The chiclet keyboard can of course be backlit so that you can see the keys better in the dark.
On the other hand, it does not have a numeric keypad, which is very useful for entering numbers. It’s a shame because this feature is standard on 15-inch monitors.

Gamers will appreciate the limited latency of the screen as well as its refresh rate of 165Hz higher than the standard 60Hz as this has the effect of enhancing the fluidity in games. Creative people are not left out as well as High Definition lovers. Because the screen is adorned with specifications sRGB and IPS involving a colorimetry more faithful than average with large vertical and horizontal viewing angles. But also a 2.5K definition superior to Full HD coupled with a 16/9th format lending itself well to the display of Very High Definition content such as videos. Treated anti-reflection, the screen also offers a better visibility in bright environments (eg outdoor) than a glossy slab while being more relaxing for the eyes in prolonged use.
